چکیده

Exchange transfusion of the newly born baby affected with Rh hemolytic diseas' was introduced by Diamond in 1947. As a result of its fuller development, an' particularly repeated exchange transfusion for severe cases, at least 95 per cent o'v live-born affected babies may be saved by this treatment (Walker, 1959). Attention ijc now being directed therefore to the prevention of stillbirth, and, more recently, to tb' ti eventual elimination of the disease by protecting the Rh negative mother against th{ s formation of Rh antibodies. e

Exchange transfusions and top-up transfusions in neonates with Kell haemolytic disease compared to Rh D haemolytic disease.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate neonatal outcome in Kell haemolytic disease compared to Rh D haemolytic disease. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective study of all (near)-term neonates with Kell (n=34) and Rh D haemolytic disease (n=157) admitted to our centre between January 2000 and December 2008. We recorded the need for exchange transfusion and top-up transfusions up to 3 months of age. RESULTS Neonates in ...

Rh Haemolytic Disease of the Newborn, 1960-1961.

Before 1941, erythroblastosis foetalis was treated at Birmingham Maternity Hospital by repeated intramuscular injections of fresh blood (Braid, 1939). During the next decade infants with Rh haemolytic disease of the newborn were given repeated intravenous transfusions of Rh negative blood. The exchange transfusion was not introduced until 1950. The first three years' experience (1950-53) with t...

Incidence of haemolytic disease of the newborn in the offspring of sisters.

Haemolytic disease of the newborn most commonly occurs when an Rh-negative mother has been sensitized to the D antigen, either from an Rh-positive foetus during pregnancy, or by an injection or transfusion of blood. Sensitization, however, occurs much less commonly than is theoretically possible; and Wiener (1946) has suggested that the ability of an individual to become sensitized is condition...

Rh haemolytic disease: continuing problem of management.

Eighteen patients with severe Rh haemolytic disease, all of whom underwent fetal blood sampling and intrauterine transfusion, were studied. Twelve babies survived (67%) all of whom were delivered by lower segment caesarean section. There were three intrauterine deaths resulting in late abortion, one stillbirth with trisomy 21, and two neonatal deaths (both from severe prematurity). The traditio...

Anti-E in pregnancy.

Since the introduction of anti-Rhesus (Rh) D prophylaxis for RhD-negative women, other Rh and non-Rh red cell alloantibodies have become relatively more important and are now responsible for the greater proportion of haemolytic disease of the newborn. Anti-C and anti-E are the most commonly implicated non-D Rh antibodies in the pathogenesis of haemolytic disease of the newborn'. In 1977 Peppere...
